Ajay Atul: 'Seven generations of my family have nothing to do with music!'

By MovieTalkies.com,

They're earning all the raves for their winning numbers in Singham. Ajay Atul, famed Marathi composers, are all gung ho over the reception to their tracks in the Ajay Devgn starrer helmed by Rohit Shetty. The songs maula, saathiya and the title track of the flick have fetched huge appreciation and the duo who bagged the National Award for Jogwa in 2008, confess that music did not come to them on a hereditary platter.

Ajay and Atul Gogavale, raised in Western Maharashtra in villages such as Shirur, Junnar and Rajgurunagar, hail from a family that owns farms and their father worked in the Revenue department. "Seven generations of my family have nothing to do with music!," reveal the tuneful siblings. "We have no guru in music as such, though the nice part is that my father and our family had no objection to us taking up a career in music."
As regards their strongpoint as tunesmiths the two are amply clear on that score (hah, literally). "We'd say that our strength as music composers is definitely melody," states Ajay.
Atul, meanwhile, doesn't hesitate to heap praise on Rohit Shetty stating, "Actually, Rohit Shetty listened to a few Marathi tracks that we had composed and finalised us in about 15 minutes flat! He also gave us a completely free hand, although there were many significant inputs from Rohit's side too."
