'Rambo' Turns Year Older

By MovieTalkies.com, 06 July 2012 Sylvester Stallone

One of the favourite action stars of Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone is famous for playing the lead role in films like the Rocky and Rambo series, which have joined the 'must watch' list for any action film freak decades ago.

Born in New York in a Italian family, Sylvester started his career as an actor in soft porn films and did some small roles in Hollywood films apart from guest appearances in TV series like Police Story and Kojak. In 1975, Stallone reportedly saw the iconic boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, which planted the idea of a film story in his mind and this is how 'Rocky' was created. The film, about an underdog who achieves success through sheer hard work and persistence, made Stallone an overnight star and the film came to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay nominations for Stallone. The film went on to win the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Film Editing.

Stallone went ahead with making sequels to Rocky, which were hits again and in 1982, Stallone launched another franchise success with the character of John Rambo, a traumatised Vietnam veteran. The Rambo series too went on to be a major hit and till date, Stallone is often either addressed Rocky or Rambo by his fans.

Apart from the two hit series, Stallone appeared in other hit films like Tango And Cash, Oscar, Copland, Get Carter and The Expendables, to name a few. Stallone will be next seen reprising his role as mercenary Barney Ross in the sequel to The Expendables.

On the occasion of his birthday, here's wishing Hollywood hunk Sylvester Stallone a healthy and long life.
