Dibakar Banerjee: 'Bandit Queen' changed my life'

Acclaimed director Dibakar Banerjee, whose political thriller Shanghai releases today, is known for making intelligent as well as entertaining films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Love Sex Aur Dhokha and the 42 year old director claims that it was Shekhar Kapur's Bandit Queen, based on the life of dreaded dacoit Phoolan Devi, which changed his life.
In a recent interview, Banerjee was quoted saying, "I remember seeing Bandit Queen and going into deep depression because I thought this guy (Kapur) had robbed me of my one shot at glory. This was the film that changed my life. I could not believe that an Indian film could be made like this!"
Starring Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin, Shanghai is a political thriller that revolves around a social activist's murder and the political consequences of the act.
