There has been a lot of speculation about the cast of the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's book, 2 States. Sajid Nadiadwala had bought the rights of the film a couple of years back. It was at that time, to be helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj with Shah Rukh Khan playing the titular role. However, nothing materialized out of those plans. Subsequently, even Ranbir Kapoor was considered when Karan Johar also stepped into the project. However, even that didn't work out.
Now, the latest buzz is that the Delhi Belly actor Imran Khan has been roped in to play the lead in the film. A source was quoted saying, "Imran is the new star of the block and with a slew of hits to his credit, and he is as bankable as any other top star. Karan was keen to have Imran on board. The actor loved the script of 2 States and gave his nod the film."
The book, penned by Chetan Bhagat, is a love story of a South Indian girl and a Punjabi boy and has amassed huge popularity amongst the masses.
Previously, Chetan Bhagat's One Night At A Call Centre was adapted into the Salman Khan starrer Hello, and 5 Point Someone was adapted into Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 3 Idiots.
Currently, his third book 3 Mistakes Of My Life is being made into a film Kai Po Che directed by Abhishek Kapoor of Rock On!! fame.
