After playing the rustic villain Chhedi Singh in Salman Khan starrer Dabangg, actor Sonu Sood is now all set to play the role of dreaded Mumbai gangster Dawood Ibrahim in Sanjay Gupta's gangland flick Shootout At Wadala.
Earlier, Vivek Oberoi, known for playing underworld personalities in his films like Company, had been roped in to play the criminal mastermind, but when Oberoi did not revert, a miffed Gupta dumped him from the project and Sood stepped into his shoes.
Confirming the news, Sonu Sood was quoted to have said, "I am extremely thrilled to be part of this project. Sanjay Gupta is one of the best technicians we have in the industry. Gupta has told me so much about the film and I am very much excited to start working."
On his part, Gupta seemed rather happy at his choice. The Kaante director gushed about how Sood's body language and physique works perfectly for the role.
Starring John Abraham as Manya Surve and Anil Kapoor as encounter specialist Isaque Bagwan, Shootout At Wadala dramatizes the very first official encounter conducted by the Mumbai Police.
Incidentally, Akshay Kumar will also be playing the role of Dawood Ibrahim in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 and Ajay Devgn had played a role based on the dreaded gangster in Ram Gopal Varma's Company
