Arjan Bajwa: 'My character in 'Lanka' does not have any name!'

By MovieTalkies.com, 30 November 2011 Arjan Bajwa, Shashank Dabral, Manoj Bajpayee, Maqbool Khan

Well, well, be prepared for the unexpected…Lanka style.

In a singular first of sorts, Arjan Bajwa who plays the modern-day Vibhishan in the Maqbool Khan-helmed flick reveals, "There is a surprise element in the film. My character in Lanka is modelled along the lines of Vibhishan, just as Manoj Bajpai's character is patterned along the lines of Ravana.  But the strange part is my character does not have any name in the film!"

Adds he significantly, "This character has been written by our writer Shashank Dabral so cleverly, that he has not kept any name for this character, at all. In fact, there is a scene in the film where I'm supposed to be signing a document. When we were about to film it, I asked my director, 'What am I supposed to sign as?'. But we worked around that scene well and handled it very cleverly, I think."

Stressing his point further, Arjan states, "There is no situation in Lanka where this character is addressed by his name. And you won't want to know his name either."

In Arjan's filmography that spans South cinema and Hindi films, Lanka surely ranks uniqely in this regard. "In all my films, I've had a name," asserts Arjan."This is the only one which has been differently defined. I've always played urbane, cool characters and I've always wanted to break away from that. I wanted to play something more hard-hitting, something more intense. And that is something that Lanka has offered me."
