Talent Powerhouse Tabu Celebrates Birthday

Born in a family of professors and teachers, Tabu, the niece of veteran actress Shabana Azmi and sister of Farah Naaz, is one of the few actors in the industry who has worked in Hindi as well as in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali language films, as well as one American film.
 
Though the talented Tabu is predominantly known for working with parallel cinema, she has also acted in a few commercial films like as Border(1997), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Biwi No.1 and Hum Saath Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999). Her notable performances include Maachis, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Maqbool and Cheeni Kum. Her leading role in Mira Nair's American film The Namesake also drew major praise.

Tabu has won the National Film Award for 'Best Actress' twice, and she holds the record for the most wins (four) of Filmfare's Critics Award for 'Best Female Performer'. She is the recipient of the 2011 Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award.
