After playing second leads since the past couple of films, Chandan Roy Sanyal finally lands a lead role with Love You To Death, a story about love, greed and murder. A film, described as a comic-thriller by the makers, Love You To Death might not be an ultra-impressive fare, but at the same time, it does have its moments which make you guffaw with its quirky humour at times.

The film revolves around Sonia (Yuki Ellias), a rich bimbette with a heart of gold, who is married to Atul Sinha (Chandan Roy Sanyal), a yuppie with an erectile dysfunction problem who wants to make it big by associating with a shady Russian-Israeli arms dealer named Yuri. The rest of the family comprises Atul’s mother Sundari (Suhasini Mulay), an unscrupulous video-game aficionado and father Ravi (Kallol Banerjee), a wild-life enthusiast with a secret romance.

Atul wants to give away Sonia’s land in Surat to set up a factory with Yuri, but Sonia wants the land to be used for a solar project after being impressed with John (Nicholas Brown), a hunky eco-warrior who impresses Sonia with his passion for the environment.

Worrying about the land being given away for ‘rubbish projects’, Atul and the rest of the family conspire to bump off Sonia and how events unfold in a darkly comic way forms the rest of the story. Thrown in the mix is a sexologist cum rock singer (Sohrab Ardeshir), a tarot reader Maya (Sheeba Chaddha), a theatre troupe director moonlighting as a contract killer Chetan (Chetan Sashital) and a cheeky boy-servant Chotu (Sagar Salunkhe), who in their own way contribute to the humour quotient of the film.

As always, Chandan is great with his comic sense and manages to make you laugh with his funny expressions and mannerisms even during serious scenes. Mulay, Chaddha and Banerjee manage their parts quite stolidly as does Yuki Ellias, whose bimbette with a heart of gold act manages to make you smile indulgently. It is however Ardeshir’s cameo as the sexologist-rock singer that makes you howl with laughter.

Though the script is not as gripping or suspenseful as one would like it to be, one can say that the makers have made quite a decent effort with Love You To Death.
