Accident On Hill Road (2009)
Movie Review

A Shoddy Affair
Rating (1/5)
By MovieTalkies.com, 2 January 2010.
Release Date : 31 December 2009

Well as the year opener, 'Accident On Hill Road', is unlikely to make any noise at the box office. The film has an interesting concept, but it fails to build up interestingly and proves to be quite a dampener inspite of good actors like Faroque Shaikh and Abhimanyu Singh (who was brilliant in last Gulaal. Director Mahesh Nair is unable to keep his film on track and unfortunately, it best resembles a B or a C grade thriller.

The film is loosely based on a road accident and its aftermath. Actress Celina Jaitley plays a nurse, Sonam, who is high on drinks and drugs, when she knocks down the innocent Prakash (Shaikh) on Hill Road, one night. Due to the collision, Prakash's body gets flung onto her windshield. Instead of attending to him and getting him timely medical attention, Sonam drives off with him clinging on to dear life. She parks the car in her garage, with Prakash in tow, ignoring his pleas for help. Aided by her boyfriend, a drug peddler by the name of Sid (Abhimanyu), Sonam does not want to own up to the accident as she feels the repercussions could affect her career. From here onwards, the film slips into a bloody fight for survival between Sonam and Sid on one side, and Prakash on the other side.

The film manages to chug along till the interval, but after that it literally goes downhill. The screenplay, written by Nair and Siddharth Parmar, loses steam in the second half and is not able to match up with enough twists and turns to keep the audiences hooked. There is little that the director is able to do to restore the plot.

Celina in the role of the nurse Sonam fits into the role well but her acting veers towards the hysterical. She is too loud and screechy and grates on one's nerves. The others don't fare any better. Abhimanyu Singh is wasted in his role of the hardened drug peddler and is unable to light up the screen with his presence as he did in his last release, 'Gulaal'. The worst of all, is the case of Farooque Shaikh, who is best remembered for his comic roles in films like 'Chashme Baddur', or as the Nawab in 'Umrao Jaan'. He is among our finest actors and it is strange to see him in such a shoddy production, where he is unable to create any value.

As for the other departments in the film, the cinematography is handled by Ravi Walia and is adequate. The film has one song which has been composed by Raju Singh, which fits in well with the scheme of things. Overall, the production values are mediocre and this film is nothing short of one shoddy accident.
