Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai REVIEWS

Mere Dost Picture Achchi Nahin Hai

By Shivom Oza, MovieTalkies.com, 19 July 2012 1 / 5

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - In Brief
9-years-in-the-making, the film is about a disgruntled duo of a struggling actor and an aspiring director who are trying their level best to make a feature film. However, they face the strangest of odds on their way to become successful in filmdom.

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - Verdict
Haggard storyline, lacklustre dialogues, annoying music and tired performances, make this film a terrible watch. You should not veer towards the ticket-window for this one.

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - Short Plot
Amar Joshi (Suniel Shetty) is a boy from Benares who pursues direction at a filmmaking school in London. Wanting to return to India to make a film on a rape victim called 'Cheekh', he approaches his friend Suraj (Rajpal Yadav) to get an entry into Bollywood. Upon reaching Mumbai, he realizes that making a film won’t be as easy as he reckoned. He faces weirdo characters; superstitious, foul-mouthed, debauched, sex-starved, corrupt, perverted and some of them, plain dumb. There are cameo appearances by Suresh Menon (a badly stereotyped South Indian music director), Deepak Qazir (an impulsive spirituality-struck producer), Avtar Gill (another sex-starved producer with a fixation for item numbers), Razzak Khan (as the crotch-tugging, foul-mouthed producer gave us some of the most disgusting moments in the history of Indian cinema) and many more. Udita Goswami as an established actress Mohini and Mumait Khan as a gangster’s moll also lurch around in the film. That the film finally gets made or not forms the crux of the story, not that you care!

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - Performances
Awful, even keeping in mind that the film has been in the making for almost a decade, there is certainly no excuse for mediocrity. Suniel Shetty and Rajpal Yadav ham through their roles. They have to pretend throughout the film that they aren’t really interested in making the film 'Cheekh'. However, they look like they aren’t interested in making the film Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai as well. Rajpal plays a guy who cannot speak English properly. Hence, he mispronounces words which end up meaning something else from what was intended and yes, embarrassing to pits. Sexual innuendos are rampant throughout this film. They don't bring about hilarity at all. In fact, they are supremely cringe-worthy. Other 'stars' in the film include Udita Goswami, Mumait Khan, Shawar Ali, Shayan Munshi etc. Even veteran actors such as Om Puri and Neena Gupta are hideous in their badly written characters.

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - Technical

It is so ironic that the film which spoke about the difficulties of filmdom, itself was in the cans for nine long years. Yet, after watching the film, it does not seem surprising at all. Such inane writing merits no acknowledgement. Even the music of the film is yawn-inducing. Director-writer Rajnish Thakur can probably keep revisiting this film to learn why a film doesn’t work.

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai - Final Word

Disappointing to the core!

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai - Par Kuch Khaas Nahi Hai

By Reflections, MovieTalkies.com, 18 July 2012 1.5 / 5

Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baaki Hai is another addition to the planet of comedy in Bollywood. The music album attempts to versatile while comprising of seven tracks that are composed by varied music directors and also sung by different artists. However, only Sukhwinder and Parvez manage to leave some mark.

The music album begins with the title track Picture Abhi Baki Hai which very aptly explains the theme of the movie. Sung well by Shabab Sabri, it has lyricist Ravi Chopra using words like 'seat', 'balcony', 'parda' and 'interval' quite well, hence giving a true sense of a theater in motion. However, music by composer Rajendra Shiv is quite ordinary and doesn't really make you hear the song all over again.

Next on the chart comes the track Salaame Ishq where music begins on high nodes. Magic of Sunidhi's sensuous voice gives it an appeal of an item number. This one is the kind which one can at least to a few times. Music by Subhash Pradhan has a usual party number feel it without any new innovations being made to it. Lyricist Swasti Shree Sharma has alsokept things quite effortless though one doesn't really stays on with the song and merely moves on.

Chala Hai Joshi is another addition to the music album. The track begins with a guitar and composers Parvez Qasar and Subhash Pradhan have tried to keep the music simple and straightforward. Lyrics by Taabish Romani are catchy too and aptly narrate the tale of the protagonist Amar Joshi, hence connecting the masseswith the theme of the movie.

Next to arrive is Koi Na Samjha, a track by Parvez Qasar, which is a soft number with light music given by Parvez Qasar and Subhash Pradhan again. Overall, a nice composition and somewhat pleasant to the ears.

Its Rain Rain is a duet by Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh. While Sunidhi Chauhan lends it a sensuous and a sumptuous appeal, Sukhwinder adds further flavor to it in his characteristic andaaz. He also does well in the composition department, hence spreading the magic of rain in the hearts of the listeners. However this time around its Sameer's lyrics which are the culprit as they are quite ordinary and just not manage to leave a mark.

Sanam Sanam, a duet track sung by Shaan and Shradha Pandit, is not pleasing at all though. Sukhwinder Singh's music is not at all catchy and doesn't even classify as ordinary. Sameer's lyrics are simple and don't manage to lend the album any laurels. An out and out skip worthy track.

Last to arrive is Zindagi Mere Pass which is sung and composed reasonably well by Sukhwinder Singh. An expression of 'dard' and melancholy can be truly felt in Sukhwinder's vocals; though overall the song seems to be quite unusual while trying to fit into the hilarious theme of the movie. Lyrics by Sameer are rhythmical and impressive though.

Overall, the music album is below average as it comprises of a few highs but severallows. Don't expect this one to be giving leading chartbusters any competition whatsoever.
