Aurangzeb – In Brief:
Arya, an honest Gurgaon-based police officer, sets up a coup in which he replaces a pivotal member of a gang with a look-alike. However, the coup goes kaput!

Aurangzeb – Verdict:
Although the cast members (Arjun Kapoor, Prithviraj, Jackie Shroff, Rishi Kapoor, Sikander Kher and Amrita Singh among others) have delivered stupendous performances and the cinematography is first-rate, the film falls flat owing to its convoluted screenplay. The writer tries to mix up too many sub-plots and twists, making the film a very complex and an exhausting affair.

Aurangzeb – Short Plot:
Gurgaon-based police officer Arya (Prithviraj) has to choose between following his late father’s (Anupam Kher), who was an honest policeman till fate did him in, ideals and his uncle Ravikant’s, who is an opportunistic head of the police department, crooked ways. Arya chooses the middle path and ends up facing terrible consequences.

Vishal (Arjun Kapoor) is a simpleton living with his widowed mother (Tanvi Azmi) in a far-off town in North India. The mother has faced a lot of troubles in trying to get away from her turbulent marriage, leave one of her children behind, and bring Vishal up for so many years. Vishal joins hands with Arya and his uncle to help eliminate a very powerful gang reigning in Gurgaon. This gang, led by Yashvardhan (Jackie Shroff), is running havoc with multiple corporate deals and abundant money laundering. Yashvardhan has an errant son Ajay (Arjun Kapoor), who happens to look exactly like Vishal.

How the stories of all these characters intertwine is what Aurangzeb is all about!

Delectable Concoction Of Theme Based Music

Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films reinstate their faith in Arjun Kapoor by offering him a dual role in Atul Sabbharwal directed Aurangzeb, a high octane action drama that also stars Sasha Aagha , Jackie Shroff, Prithviraj, Rishi Kapoor, Amrita Singh and Swara Bhaskar in pivotal roles. Music for this film has been composed by relative newcomers, Vipin Mishra (an ex-Parikrama Guitarist) and Amartya Rahut and the lyrics have been provided by Puneet Sharma, Manoj Kumar Nath and Vipin Mishra himself.

Yashraj Films have always been known for quality music in their films and they have indeed taken a risk by opting to go for relative newcomers, not only in the acting department, but also in the music department. But on the other hand, they have also been instrumental in bringing in promising new talent into the industry and this film is no exception.  It is with the expectation that Aditya Chopra’s faith in these young talents would not be misplaced and that the soundtrack of Aurangzeb would indeed bring laurels to these newcomers that one starts listening to this album.

The album opens with Barbaadiyan, a lively club dance number which has the female lead Sasha Aagha (daughter of the legendary Salma Agha) behind the mike along with music composer cum singer Ram Sampat. Amartya Rahut makes a mark instantly with the music for this catchy and foot tapping Puneet Sharma written number but it is Sasha’s energetic vocals which catches one by surprise. She sings the song with the kind of energy and attitude required for a track of this nature and carries it off with aplomb thereby proving to be a worthwhile successor to her legendary mother’s singing legacy along with Ram Sampat providing solid support.
