3 Bachelors SYNOPSIS

This is a film about two "young bachelors" and one "young at heart" bachelor. It's a humorous take on their respective love stories.

Mischievous Amit (Sharman Joshi) and shy Jai (Manish Nagpal) are two small town boys who come down to Mumbai for admission in Dhariwal College. To his credit, Amit ends up in a jam when he teases Neha (Raima Sen) and Nisha (Ria Sen) on the very first day of college and manages to drag poor Jai into this mess too. They are brought in front of principal Shalini Devi (Himani Shivpuri) and somehow manage to keep their admission in the college intact. But their biggest problem is that they don't get a room in the college hostel. Not being very affluent, the boys can't just go to a hotel or rent a furnished flat for the duration of college. They employ the help of an estate agent, who finds them a client who rents out a room in her house for cheap, the only condition being: no single men allowed, only families/married couples. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Jai is transformed into Jaya and Amit is the lucky husband. When the tenant couple goes to meet their landlady, they stand dazed to find out that it is their college principal Shalini Devi. Innocent to the con, Shalini Devi agrees to allow this couple in her home. The double whammy for the "couple" arrives when, the next morning, Amit and "Jaya" find out that Shalini Devi has two neices.... The very two beautiful girls they got into trouble with in college: Neha and Nisha.

Now starts the real confusion of romance and love. Amit falls madly in love with Neha but she of course doesn't look at him because according to her he is married. Nisha falls hard for Jai in college without knowing that he is playing wife "Jaya" to Amit. On the other hand Jai refuses to indulge her advances as he wants to sincerely concentrate on his studies and make his parents proud.

The whole college is exasperated with Principal Shalini Devi's autocracy and strictness so both Amit and Jai involve their professor Deepak Verma in a crazy plan. The encourage Deepak to have an affair with Shalini. They think that love can change everything and if Shalini falls for Deepak then maybe she will become softer and loving towards the whole world in general. Amit and Neha coach Deepak in the matters of the heart and love.

The college campus is now ringing with love stories of three couples. Amit Neha, Jai Nisha and Deepak Shalini. And just when these stories are about to reach a happily ever after, comes the climax with a resounding BOOM. Everyone's real identity and real reasons for falling in love are discovered by each other and all hell breaks loose.

The BOOM happens but it does not destroy as expected   The climax shows how Amit wins Neha; how Nisha convinces Jai that love is not a hindrance but rather enhances life and how the strict Shalini finally starts purring like a pussy cat because of her love for Deepak .

These Bachelors Are Better Left Untouched

By Shivom Oza, MovieTalkies.com, 06 July 2012 1 / 5

3 Bachelors Review - In Brief
A film about two boys Amit and Jai who along with their college professor Deepak Varma resort to lies in order to woo three ladies (including 1 college principal). However, they end up hurting their feelings. This is a film about mistaken identity and misconstrued romance.

3 Bachelors Review - Verdict
A film that was made in the year 2002 unfortunately fails to appeal, in any way. With a clichéd storyline, stereotypical characters and lifeless music, 3 Bachelors is quite a 'dud'. Even Sharman Joshi's presence fails to lift the film, in any way.

3 Bachelors Review - Short Plot
The story is about two bachelors, Amit (Sharman Joshi) and Jai (Manish Nagpal), who have just moved into Mumbai to study at a reputed college. However, fate hits them hard on the very first day. Not only do the boys get ragged on the first day, but also fail to acquire any accommodation. Only one landlady is willing to give a house, given that the tenants are a married couple. Jai bites the dust and goes for a makeover (a la Kamal Haasan in Chachi 420) and becomes Jaya, Amit's wife. Incidentally, the landlady, Shalini Devi (Himani Shivpuri), is also the principal of the college that the two boys study in. Shalini Devi's nieces Neha (Raima Sen) and Nisha (Riya Sen) fall for the two boys. There is another angle. A professor Deepak Varma (Manoj Pahwa), who is supposedly a widower (suggested, not told), is looking for a promotion at the college. In lieu of that, he tries to woo the college principal. Yes, the story is quite messed up. A lot of misunderstandings, a couple of songs, endless revelations and heartbreaks later, this 'dated' film reaches its predictable climax.

3 Bachelors Review - Performances
The two leading men Sharman Joshi and Manish Nagpal strike up brilliant chemistry. Both have great comic timing, and the duo manage to lighten up the proceedings whenever they appear on the screen. However, the film itself is so dated (it went on floors a decade back) that even the supposedly 'good' scenes fail to create an impact. The writing is to blame for this, which unfortunately, ends up spoiling the entire movie-watching experience (Irrespective of the performances). Seasoned actors such as Manoj Pahwa and Himani Shivpuri too, deliver fine performances, but are let down by the lacklustre writing. There are a couple of cameos in the film, Mika Singh crooning Something Something and Nigar Khan in an item number. However, the film has already become too yawn-inducing to elicit any interest from the viewer, thereon. Raima Sen and Riya Sen are major disappointments. Since, their voices have been dubbed, albeit miserably, won't say much about their dialogue delivery, but the acting itself is appalling.

3 Bachelors Review - Technical
As already mentioned, the writing is horrible. The writers (Raghuvir Shekhawat and Ajai Sinha) come up with out-dated jokes, clichéd dialogues and an uninspiring storyline. The makers too, should take the blame for this debacle.

The editing (Sanjay Sankla) is average. When the film itself is bad, there is nothing much that the editor can do. The direction by Ajai Sinha is just about average. Can't keep giving the timing as an excuse! There were good films made, a decade back as well. Daboo Malik shells out forgettable numbers.

Had this film been released in 2002, it would have found quite a few takers. Such films used to work at that point of time (single-screen theatres were more in demand, back then). The producers should have released the film directly on television (keeping the financial constraints in mind), instead of giving it a proper release.

3 Bachelors Review - Final Word
The film cannot be watched, at one stretch. Maybe, if it does come on television, you may catch it to see the pre-Ferrari Ki Sawaari Sharman Joshi. However, not a single paisa should be spent on 3 Bachelors.

3 Bachelors - 3 Tigaada, Kaam Bigaada

By Reflections, MovieTalkies.com, 30 June 2012 1.5 / 5

3 Bachelors, as the title suggests, appears to be an album about youth, masti, enjoyment and carefree attitude. Since the film's title includes '3', there is a promise to get thrice of what is expected. Hold on to your thoughts though since the irony is that the album is not even average. Falling in line with the name, there are 3 tracks in the album, something which is unconventionally less. It is said that teen tigaada, kaam bigaada; however the team does not seem to believe in any superstition, as the starcast too has '3' lead actors – Sharman Joshi, Riya Sen and Raima Sen.

Sharman and Ria had been seen earlier in the hit comedy Style a decade ago. Now 3 Bachelors pairs the Sen Sisters together and it has to be seen that what really is the impact they manage to create in the world of music as well as the film.

Unfortunately though, there is nothing much to speak about in each of the three tracks. There are big names like Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vinod Rathod involved but the album fails to capitalize on it.

The first track of the album, Dag Mag Dag Mag, has been decorated with beautiful voices of Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan but lyrics given by Parveen Bhardwaj are very average. Same holds true for Daboo Malik's music as well. This romantic dance number starts well but is unable to leave any mark thereafter, hence turning out to be one of those hundreds of other songs which come throughout the year and vanish out soon.

The second track in the album, Dhoom Dhaam starts with the strong voice of Kalpana and is accompanied with beautiful tune of Rajasthani folk music. Soon enough though, it proves to be no different than the first track when it comes to the overall quality. Yes, there is a beautiful play of 'sarangi', something which is heard after a long time. However lyrics (by Rekha Mistri) as well as music resemble the era of 1980's and even though it tries to enter the territory of Pallo Latke [Naukar], it fails.

The third and the final track is Shankeriya Shankeriya, which is sung by Vinod Rathod and Mou Mukherjee. Though the two singers try to infuse some life in the proceedings, the yesteryear effect pulls this one down as well, hence turning out to be yet another downer.

Overall, 3 Bachelors is a below average album which will not be able to influence people to hear it again. Now if only it had included a few more numbers, it may still have had it's chances due to law of averages coming into play.
