Race 2 REVIEWS

This Race Is A Winner!

By MovieTalkies.com, 25 January 2013 3 / 5

Race 2 Movie Review- In Short: A deadly game of double-cross and betrayals involving some old and new players…

Race 2 Movie Review-Verdict: One of the most stylish movies made in the recent past, Race 2 is a treat for fans of the thriller genre

Race 2 Movie Review-Story Plot: Armaan Malik (John Abraham) is a criminal mastermind, who runs a successful business with the aid of his equally devious sister Elena (Deepika Padukone). When Ranveer Singh (Saif Ali Khan) approaches Armaan through Robert D'Costa (Anil Kapoor) with a lucrative offer, Armaan is curious as well as skeptical of his motives.

To further complicate matters, Ranveer seems to be getting close to Elena as well as Omisha (Jacqueline Fernandez), who is Mallik's moll. How these characters indulge in a game of betrayals and double-crosses to achieve their own objectives forms the rest of the plot.

Race 2 Movie Review-Performances: Without a doubt, the actors (both male and female) are eye-candy for the audience. Saif plays the anti-hero with élan, though in certain scenes, he seems to resemble his Agent Vinod avatar. John Abraham too looks good on screen but the beefcake still needs to brush up his acting skills and manage to not look so wooden. Anil Kapoor is the ultimate delight to watch…with his witty one-liners and his roguish charm, the 'jhakaas' actor will have everyone chuckling merrily. As far as the female brigade is concerned, the actresses don't get to emote much but they do make up for it by looking utterly gorgeous. Deepika, Jacqueline and Ameesha provide enough 'hotness' to make the screen sizzle.

Race 2 Movie Review-Direction: Fast cars, gorgeous women, death-defying stunts, snazzy gadgets and exotic locales…these are the hallmarks of a good Bond movie usually, but Abbas-Mustan manage to work the same ingredients to come up with a 'racy' thriller for Bollywood (pun unintended). Apart from being visually appealing, the film has enough twists and turns to keep you wondering about what surprises lurk around the corner. On the flip side, maybe the director duo should have paid a little more attention to the detailing (for example: why would characters based in Turkey or Europe get their news updates from a Hindi news channel is anybody's guess). However, all said and done, Race 2 is a perfect weekend getaway.

Race 2 Movie Review-Music: With songs like the intoxicating lath lag gayi to the upbeatparty on my mind as well as the remix version of Allah duhai hai, Race 2 emerges a winner on the musical front too.

Race 2 Movie Review-Final Word: For a thrilling experience and some eye-candy fix, do go and watch the latest Abbas-Mustan flick.

Nice but limited variety

By Reflections, MovieTalkies.com, 22 January 2013 3 / 5

Race 2, an extension of Race has a lot of expectations in terms of both music and story since latter had turned out to be a milestone in both aspects. Also, Saif-Pritam combo is ready to create a buzz as well and though unlike Cocktail there may not be many experiments in store, there is still a lot of meat to explore in Race 2 which has lyrics by Mayur Puri.

Blend of varied music styles can be gift for ears and you may find it in the first track of the album Be Intehaan itself. The track has three versions in the album and each of them comes with unique offerings. The first of the three versions is the blend of Sunidhi Chauhan's voice with some melodic belting by Atif Aslam in a style for which he is well known. The track starts with some soft melody which is accompanied by a soothing touch of piano where further charm is enhanced by Atif's magical vocals.

Another rendition of the track is an unplugged version by Rahul Vaidya. His vocals are magic for ears and this version with a piano in the background would make you hum with joy. Romantic lyrics by Mayur Puri are intense and catchy as they invite the listeners to explore the depth of the song. The track is even better than its first version and is bound to do well on charts. Third version of the track is a remix which is a party number in Atif's vocals that would grab attention of young college crowds.

After the melody of 'Be Intehaan' comes Lat Lag Gayee. Pritam presents this number which reminds a listener of many of his trademark peppy party tracks. Pritam has excelled in the Bollywood pop music with many such credits to his name and this one is yet another worthy addition. It uplifts the mood and spirit while spreading joy, hence forcing you to pull up your socks and jump on the dance floors. This one with vocals by Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade has already created ripples on the music charts, and rightly so.

The next track Party on My Mind is a techno instrumental work in the vocals of K.K. and Shefali Alvares with a piece of rap from Yo Yo Honey Singh. The track which seems to be another pop number is an average piece with a club theme. The track could have been better without the rap portion as the lyrics from Prashant Ingole and Yo Yo Honey Singh leave no mark of their own in this party number. The track also has a 'remix version'.

The album is carried forward with the track Allah Duhai Hai in the vocals of Atif Aslam, Vishal Dadlani, Anushka, Ritu and Michie. This one is a theme track which has nothing fresh to offer with lyrics which are not at all catchy and interesting. The track has a 'remix version' as well with more of techno beats added up, hence resulting in an overall unimpressive outing.

The album has a good Race2 (Mashup)' to bring it to closure. It is an addition to the list of the party and club outings that the album offers with high volume musical arrangements and beats.

Overall, Race 2 is another nice work from Pritam but has limited variety to offer. The tracks 'Be Intehaan' and 'Lat Lag Gayee' are good and are bound to do well on the charts.
