Mere Jeevan Saathi is a romantic film, where Akshay Kumar plays a budding singer. Akshay and Amisha Patel are in love. Karishma Kapoor is also in love with Akshay, but has not expressed her feelings. She helps Akshay by providing the lyrics for his tune of a track, titled, ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’. Akshay stages the song and it is a big hit. Karishma plays the only daughter of a music baron based in America, and after her father’s death, she takes over the business reign. The company signs an exclusive contract with Akshay and promotes him in a big way. Akshay goes to America for a show and Karishma manages to seduce him.
She is madly in love with Akshay, and even though she knows that Akshay is in love with Amisha, she continues pursuing him. Karishma is proud of her power and boasts that she will get what she wants. Amisha is a simple loving girl who wants only her lover to be happy. Who gets Akshay? The answer comes in the climax.
It is a well mounted film, where production values are excellent and W. B. Rao’s cinematography, simply superb. It is an intense love story, but the drawback being that the theme and treatment is old fashioned even though the characters are made to look modern. The pace is slow and towards the end and the scenes prolonged.
Performance-wise, Akshay Kumar again shows his competence in an emotional role. Karishma Kapoor shows her class in a sensitive portrayal, and Amisha Patel impresses. As the director, Suneel Darshan again shows his flair with an emotional subject.
