Being Cyrus deals with the dark humor which is succulently brought out by the morbid characters in the movie. Naseeruddin Shah plays a renowned sculptor who lives in Panchgani in a bungalow with his wife, played by Dimple Kapadia. A semi-retired fella, Boman Irani plays his younger brother, who lives in lives in Mumbai with wife Simone Singh. Saif Ali Khan comes to Naseeruddin’s place to work as a trainee, and Dimple and Saif are mutually drawn to each other.
Saif goes to Mumbai and lands up in Boman’s house, where Naseer and Boman’s father also stays. He is not treated too well, and Saif manages to be friendly with the old man. Hereon, the film moves onto a dark track of intrigue.
Performances are of a real high order, where Saif Ali Khan shows his growth as a versatile actor. In spite of a limited role, Naseeruddin Shah comes across totally natural.
The best part of the film probably is depicted in the Parsi lifestyle, which is brought out in a humorous and realistic manner. Even though the climax brings a surprising twist, but the basic plan of the crime appears to be a bit far fetched. As the director, Homi Adajania shows his grasp over the medium.
