Neelam hit the silver screen at a very young age of 14 and was lapped up by the audiences and also the industry people. She had a certain charm and innocence about her which was lacking in the heroines of that period. Her entrance was highly felt because she brought a change in the industry. She was a child prodigy. Some of Neelam's initial films are 'Love 86', 'Ilzaam' and 'Hatya'.Most of her films were with her favourite co-star Govinda who at that time was fast emerging as the new dancing sensation after Mithun Chakraborty. She was someone who could match steps with him. Slowly the Neelam mania started fading and she started getting lesser and lesser movies. Even her mentor Pehlaj Nihalani offered her quite a miniscule role in 'Mitti Aur Sona' opposite Chunky Pandey. Thus her downfall has started. There came a time in her career when she had to content herself with sidey roles as in Yash Chopra's 'Parampara' with Aamir and Saif Ali Khan. Her major films like 'Afsaana Pyar Ka' opposite Aamir Khan too did nothing much to her sliding career. The child prodigy was in the process was a terrible burn-out. She even tried playing the host of some musical countdown shows in television. Again she got a bit of appreciation. But for all Neelam fans out there, good news is that she has been offered a plum role in Sooraj Barjatya's new venture. One can only hope that this turns out to be greatest opportunity of playing a second innings of Neelam's career.
