Asin means 'without blemish and pure' and the young budding actress is for sure living up to her name. Asin Thottumkal
was born on October 26th, 1985 in Cochin, Kerala in an affluent family. She speaks a wide range of languages such as Malyalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, English and may well be the only Indian actress with a Blog spot in French. Asin started modeling while in college and her modeling assignments include 'Colgate' Toothpaste, 'Fairever' Cream and now 'Mirinda'. This exposure got noticed and at the age of fifteen when she made her acting debut on the silver screen through director Sathyan Anthikad's "Narendaran Makan" with Malayalee actor Kunjachacko Boban in the year 2001. After her initial commercial success she was offered more Telugu movies, and warmly welcomed in the Telugu film industry.
Asin starred in the original Telugu version, so she was the obvious choice for the Tamil remake, opposite Jeyam Ravi. It was a smooth transition from Telugu to Tamil with the film "M Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi". What makes Asin hot in the Tamil film industry, apart from her looks, is that she has teamed up with all the top heroes Vijay, Ajith, Surya and Vikram, in "Maaja". Her 2003 Telugu movies "Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammay" and "Shivamani" won her the Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award and the Santosham Best Actress Award respectively. After a number of films, she received her second South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil film, "Ghajini

More recently, Asin made her début in Bollywood, with "Ghajini
", the remake of its Tamil namesake, subsequently winning the Filmfare Best Hindi Debut Award. Her performance in this film attracted appreciations for her performance of a bubbly and fun loving character. Kamal Hassan

" in 2008 was again a hit with Asin.
