From being a one time resident of a tenement in South Mumbai to being recognized as a veteran actor of great acclaim today, it has been quite a ride for Jackie Shroff. Jackie stepped into the industry with the blockbuster 'Hero' with newcomer Meenakshi Sheshadri and Shammi Kapoor. The movie where he played an unkempt goon-turned-virtuous Hero gave him the image of an angry young man, and he went on to act in action films like 'Andar Baahar', 'Wardi', 'Parinda', 'Ram Lakhan' and 'Uttar Dakshin'. A few of hasty choices and one saw Jackie do a couple of B-grade films too. But it was with 'Gardish', '1942 - A Love Story' and ‘Rangeela’ that Jackie gave some of his most memorable performances. A few years back he also floated his own company with Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited (JSEL) with ‘Grahan’ and 'Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta, but both the movies failed to really leave a mark. He was also seen in movies like Lajja, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly acclaimed Devdas, Agni Varsha, Boom, Hulchul, Ssukh, Samay, and Antar Mahal. Inspite of a being an actor with élan and comfort of carrying off stand alone roles, throughout his career, Jackie has found himself sharing screen presence with other heroes in tow, rather than having enough solo movies to his credit. Most of Jackie’s co-stars have been Anil Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan, Mithun Chakraborty and Aamir Khan. His forthcoming releases include Eklavya with Amitabh Bachchan, Mera Dil Leke Dekho, and Maryada Purshottam.
