Raza Murad is a name synonymous with "villainy". Whether it's a corrupt police officer, a politician, an underworld gangster and the list of baddies continues, Raza Murad seems to have done it all.

The son of Murad, a character actor in the 1940s, the whole family seems to be a film fraternity as not only Raza Murad but his two nieces Sonam (of 'Oye Oye' and 'Tridev' fame) and Sanober Kabir (of 'Mother'fame) have followed suit. As for Raza Murad, he took professional training in FTII having joined in 1969 graduated in 1971. Raza Murad came into the film industry vying for stardom. His first brush with stardom came with the film 'Ek Nazar' released in 1972 and directed by B.R. Ishaara. In the very first film, he acted with the golden couple of Hindi cinema; Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. He has an amazing record of 307 films to hit the marquee till date. Raza Murad's association with the legendary Raj Kapoor has been special. Under the R. K. Films banner, he has been the main villain in such classics as 'Prem Rog', 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' and 'Henna'. In fact, he received a Filmfare nomination for his role in 'Henna'.

Raza Murad's strength has been his persona and his barrytone voice. Apart from doing baddies, he has tried to do positive roles as well. It was evident when he did a poet's role in the film 'Namak Haram' which was hugely appreciated. As for him doing only negative roles, Raza Murad feels, it is not in the hands of the artist to pick and choose the roles. One has to take up whatever he gets.
