From the tender age of four, Sridevi emerged into the scene of celluloid world and went on to become the most successful actress of Hindi cinema. She played the role of Lord Murugan in her first film which was in Telugu. A long journey and a couple of significant movies, and Sridevi became the diva of Southern movies. She entered Hindi cinema with small roles like that in Solva Sawan and Julie, where she played the role of a younger sister to the lead actress. But come Sadma, and Sridevi’s luck changed. Her expressive eye unimpeachable gestures and impeccable acting abilities, and Sridevi got the break she was looking for. But it was Himmatwala with Jeetendra in 1983 that paved the way for stardom. Good movies kept coming her way and Sridevi found herself to be the new star on the horizon.

Films like Tohfa with Jeetendra, Mr. India with Anil Kapoor and Nagina with Rishi Kapoor brought her talent to the forefront. Power-packed films like Yash Chopra's Chandni with Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna, Chalbaaz with Sunny Deol and Rajnikant, Lamhe with Anil Kapoor, Khuda Gawah with Amitabh Bachchan were roles which were nothing but tailor-made for her. These were some of the most memorable performances of Sridevi. At the twilight of her career, some films like Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja with Anil Kapoor, Army with Shah Rukh Khan and Gumrah with Sanjay Dutt, flopped at the box-office but her supposedly last movie Judaai with Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar left the audiences waiting for more.

A woman who ruled the screen for more than two decades, Sridevi remains an inimitable talented actor. Married to producer Boney Kapoor, the couple lives in Mumbai with their two daughters.

In 2012, Sridevi made a terrific comeback to Hindi films with Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish. Her performance was hailed by the critics as well as the audiences. It is still undecided as to what will be her next project.
 

Sridevi TRIVIA

Sridevi starer English Vinglish became the second highest Bollywood film grosser in Hong Kong after Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots. The film released in Hong Kong in Cantonese and English was also screened at The Director's Club.
