Shreyas Talpade arrived in Hindi films with a bang. The film was Iqbal and the maker Nagesh Kuknoor, a man who had made his name with a film like Hyderabad Blues. Iqbal (2005) had the actor playing a deaf youngster who aspires to be a cricketer and play for the Indian cricket team. This tale of the underdog endeared itself to both the critics and the audiences. Talpade had arrived. He continued his tryst with mentor and friend Kuknoor and the duo delivered another gem in Dor (2006), which saw another masterly performance from Talpade. The actor, who began his acting career with Marathi soaps and stage shows, entered the big league when he bagged a role in Farah Khan’s 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om. He played Shah Rukh Khan’s friend in the movie and despite the presence of SRK, Deepika Padukone and Kiron Kher, he managed to make his presence felt. In 2007, the actor did quite a few other films like Dil Dosti Etc and Aggar, in both of which he acquitted himself well. Kuknoor and he worked once again in a comedy called Bombay To Bangkok (2008), which unfortunately did not work at the box office. He also moved into production and produced a Marathi movie, called Kanda Pohe whose name was later changed to Sanai Chaughade (2008). He played the lead role in Shyam Benegal’s Welcome to Sajjanpur, which came in for a fair amount of praise. Talpade also played a major role in the Golmaal sequel, Golmaal Returns, where he came in for actor Sharman Joshi. Both Benegal’s film and Golmaal Returns displayed the actor’s flair for comedy and his impeccable comic timing. On cards right now, are Sangeeth Sivan's horror flick, Click and Paying Guest. The actor has received a number of awards for his performances in Iqbal and Dor. Much is expected from this young actor in the years ahead.
