Anurag Kashyap PROFILE

Anurag Kashyap is counted as one of the most distinguished filmmakers in the country today. He first came into the limelight as a director with Black Friday; a film based on the 1993 Bombay blasts.
 
The film ran into trouble with the censors and it took till 2007 when the film finally released. Kashyap started out as a scriptwriter with the Ram Gopal Varma-directed Satya. He has also scripted the Academy Award-nominated Canadian film Water.
 
Even his earlier project entitled Paanch has been embroiled in controversy and hasn't seen the light of the day till date.
 
His next film No Smoking, starring John Abraham did not do well ath box-office. In 2009, two of his films released. Both Gulaal and Dev D received much praise from all quarters.
 
Anurag was earlier married to Aarti but they are now separated. They have a daughter named Aaliya.
 
On 30 April 2011, Kashyap got married to Kalki Koechlin at Kalki's maternal home in Ooty. Anurag has even produced critically-acclaimed films such as Aamir, Udaan, Shaitaan etc. His next film as a director was That Girl In Yellow Boots, which did not do too well at the box-office.
 
His 2012 two-part film Gangs Of Wasseypur and Gangs Of Wasseypur II was praised from all quarters. It was even screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2012. While he keeps producing films such as Aiyyaa, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Lootera, his directorial next Ugly will also be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2013, his film, Bombay Talkies released. This four-part film was made to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. Besides Kashyap, the other three directors working on the film were Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee. Kashyap's segment starred Amitabh Bachchan

His next Bombay Velvet will feature Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
