Emraan Hashmi made his debut with a film called Footpath, in 2003, but the film did not fare very well. The film that shot him to fame was Murder, which featured him opposite the sizzling Mallika Sherawat. The film was a hit and it started a spurt of hits for the young actor like Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Kalyug, Gangster, The Train, Awarapan and Jannat. He starred alongside Kangna Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman in Raaz -The Mystery Continues... (2009) and the horror flick went on to become the first hit of the year. His next film, 'Tum Mile', inspired by the Mumbai floods, sankwithout a trace, but for Emraan, the best was yet to come. His performance as the power greedy gangster who topples Mumbai's kingpin in Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, earned him his first nomination for Filmfare 'BestSupporting Actor'. In Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, (2011) he once again shares the screen with Ajay Devgn, his co star and on screen arch enemy from Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai. Emraan plays the role of girl crazy Abhay, a gym trainer who falls hard for Shruti Haasan's character Nikki. His second release for the year was Murder 2 opposite Jacqueline Fernandez which was declared a blockbuster hit and the year ended for him with Milan Luthria's much talked about film The Dirty Picture.

His upcoming films include 'Shanghai', 'Jannat 2' and 'Raaz 3'.

Emraan and his wife, Parveen, became proud parents of Ayaan who was born in February 2010. Despite having very nondescript looks, the actor has managed to create a place for himself in the industry. His success has been buoyed by the success of the musical score of almost all his films. Most of the songs from his movies have gone on to become chartbusters.

His recent films such as Jannat 2 and Shanghai were much liked by the masses and went on to become successes at the box-office. His latest releases Raaz 3 and Rush managed to generate quite a lot of buzz. Although 'Raaz 3' went on to become a huge hit, 'Rush' failed at the box-office. He was next seen in Kannan Iyer's Ek Thi Daayan, alongside Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen Sharma. He will next be seen in Rajkumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar, opposite Vidya Balan.
