Rohit Shetty PROFILE

Son to late actor-fight master, M.B. Shetty, Rohit Shetty is today one of the most sought after directors in Bollywood. He started his career at the age of 17 as an assistant director with Kuku Kohli on the film 'Phool Aur Kaante' starring Ajay Devgn. Following which he assisted Kohli in films such as 'Suhaag', 'Haqeeqat' and 'Zulmi'. During the making of 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha', where Rohit was assisting, he had decided that he would turn a director.

Shetty directed his debut feature film, 'Zameen' with Devgn in 2003 at the age of 29. Zameen did moderate business worldwide, though way below expectations.

He shot to fame with the 2006 comedy 'Golmaal', starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi'. This was Shetty's first commercial success.

In 2008, he directed his third film, 'Sunday' starring Devgn, Warsi and Ayesha Takia.

The sequel, 'Golmaal Returns' featured most of the original cast, except Sharman Joshi, who was replaced by Shreyas Talpade, and starred Kareena Kapoor. In 2009, his only release was All the Best: Fun Begins. All the Best was amongst the highest-grossing films of 2009. In 2010, Shetty's franchise broke many records, as he directed 'Golmaal 3', which became a worldwide blockbuster and the biggest hit in his career to that time.

Shetty's 2011 blockbuster, 'Singham' did even better. 'Singham' was the biggest financial success in Shetty's career. His latest release is 'Bol Bachchan' which is a comedy film, inspired by the 1979 film 'Gol Maal', starring Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan. Despite having worked with Ajay Devgn in all his films, Shetty has signed up for another film, Chennai Express which will feature Shah Rukh Khan. He is also going make a film for Karan Johar's production house.
